the Flu vaccine is safe after the first trimester

After the first trimester, which is 12 weeks gestation, the Influenza Vaccination, is safe and recommended for women.

This is readily available from General Practitioner and Family medical centres everywhere in Australia.

Last winter the Flu, particularly Swine Flu was recognized as having killed over 200 men, women and children in Australia. This is particularly relevant for pregnant women who have a reduced functioning of the immune system and are more susceptible to illness.

There is increasing evidence that the influenza vaccine is safe in pregnancy after the first trimester.

The side effects are myalgias, arthralgia and local tenderness.

At  least get the vaccine to prevent spread to your little , local and loved ones.

As usual, practice and encourage meticulous general hygiene such as hand washing, isolation and rest while you are sick.
